Yesterday we did a historic thing. We generated 87,834 phone calls to U.S. Representatives in a concerted effort to protect the Internet. Extraordinary. There’s no doubt that we’ve been heard.

So just to keep you updated: The well-intentioned, but immensely flawed “Stop Online Piracy Act” is still in the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing was yesterday and now members will debate and bring amendments to the bill. The Committee will reconvene in a few weeks — the date has yet to be scheduled. Nothing has been brought to a final vote. Everything is still very much in play. We’ll keep you posted on what’s going on and what you can do to help. But for now, we want to thank you.

One encouraging thing we heard yesterday:

I don’t believe this bill has any chance on the House floor. I think it’s way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.

Vegas' Cosmopolitan Hotel: Pretty on the outside, dirty on the inside

I want to give every hotel the benefit of the doubt. Servicing we-the-sometimes-pain-in-the-ass people is hard. And in Vegas, it’s gotta be even harder. We the people are often drunk at check-in, we’ve lost all our money and we plan to take it out on the room service attendant as we order our nachos at 4am…But I gotta say, that no matter how hard we are to serve, there doesn’t seem to be an excuse for what I found in my Cosmopolitan hotel room. For those of you that have a sort’ve weak stomach or get easily offended, STOP READING.

I arrived in my room and found the usual, the floor had some leftover food on it, but generally it seemed clean. I went through the bathroom and found an awesome amenity, lip balm as the Vegas inside and outside air is always super drying so I was psyched to use it, until that is, I found that the safety seal was broken and it was used. Gross. Oh well, I’ll get it replaced. Then I went to brush my teeth with their dental kit and there was no toothpaste. Bummer, but no worries, I’ll just get it in the morning.

Morning: woke up, surfed my TV to check out the hotel happenings which was cool. I had a great view of Vegas at sunrise which was nice to see from my room instead of from outside the bar (come on people, you’ve all been there). Showered and grabbed my bathrobe to put on.

Then, I put my hand in my pocket. And I found. A used maxi-pad. I wish I was lying. I gagged (sorry for the drama but I did), screamed, “OMG, that’s f****g disgusting!”, then threw it and the robe off and proceeded to call and get a new robe, toothpaste and lip balm. I received an apology and about 20 minutes later, everything showed up.

Some context: I’ve stayed in ALL kinds of hotel rooms including the lowest of low budget. And never, ever ever, have I ever, had this happen.

So people, remember, looks aren’t everything, even in Vegas.
